This is the essential Music Together class, one that a child can attend from birth through kindergarten -- and through all nine song collections. This basic class follows the recommendations of child development researchers -- grouping children of a variety of ages because this fosters natural, family-style learning. Younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones, older children learn by leading younger ones, and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together. Each child participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, watching, or exploring musical instruments. Any caregiver -- parents, grandparents, nanny -- can bring the children. The whole family is welcome for this important family music experience, and any caregiver - parents, nanny, grandparents- can bring the child(ren) to class. During the Fall, Winter and Spring trimesters, classes meet once a week for 9, 10 or 11 weeks. During the summer, classes meet once a week for 6 weeks.
Our Rhythm Kids Online class is just the thing to keep your older child making music. Designed specifically for you and your 4-8 year olds, these active classes tap into how children this age are wired to learn, with music games, animal rhythm stories, and lots of stomping-flying-climbing fun.
In each weekly class, you and your child will drum, sing, move, and play to rhythms inspired by musical traditions around the world, from West African Gahu, to Japanese Taiko, to Brazilian Samba, to name a few. As they learn to think and create like a musician, they’ll also gain valuable skills they’ll take to the school classroom (and beyond!): confidence, focus, leadership, cognitive flexibility, and more.
Classes include:
- immersion in the musical language of many cultures
- playful music games with rules
- deep exposure to complex, fun, and rockin' music
- rich, creative experimentation and expression, improvisation, and innovation
During our 10-week semester, you'll be also able to join our Facebook live events and grandparents days.
Your child can use a drum, laundry basket, or box for class. Once classes begin, you might like to purchase a Djembe Drum for your child. We recommend one of three styles offered through Mindy's Music.
