It's Groovy Baby Music is seeking permanent part-time contracted teachers to share our extraordinary, joyful, and educational program with families in Greater Baltimore.

Experience and Requirements

• Ability to sing in tune and keep a steady beat (and-- did we mention?!-- must love children). 
• Playing a portable instrument is a plus but not a requirement.
• A music or teaching degree is not required for this position.
• Responsible, creative, professional, and committed.
• Positive, warm, and engaging.
• Able to connect well with both children and parents/caregivers. A good listener!
• Organized and self-motivated with a high level of integrity.
• Able to take direction as well as work independently.
• Comfortable leading singing groups and large movement activities with adults and young children.
• Singing: able to sing in tune without accompaniment and a strong voice that can lead a large group.
• Moving: able to move and dance with accurate rhythm, including the ability to lead lightly choreographed dances.
• Organized and on top of administrative tasks (i.e., lesson planning, use of materials, contacting caregivers).
• Experience working with young children (professionally or as a caregiver/parent).
• Comfortable in an informal learning environment.
• Not afraid to be SILLY!

Responsibilities

• Teaching weekly Music Together® classes to mixed-age groups of children (ages 0-5) and their families.
• Effectively execute the Music Together^® curriculum and educate families about the developmental benefits of music-making in the home environment.
• Organize and practice weekly lesson plans.
• Learn new music each term (recordings and teacher songbook provided in advance of each semester).
• Create a trusting relationship with parents and children.
• Participate in It's Groovy Baby Music community events.
• Opportunity to substitute for classes when needed.
• Basic administrative duties related to teaching (i.e., attendance, CD and songbook distribution, communication with families, canceling classes).
• Promote classes in the local community.

What's the process?

1. Contact Bettina! Send in your resume and an informal introductory letter.
2. Interview & Audition: Meet with Bettina. Observe a class (if you've never been to/participated in one), not necessarily in that order. Show your ability to sing and move to music.
3. Training:
   • Submit a video to Music Together Worldwide (they will specify, but it will include singing and moving).
   • Attend and pass an online training course consisting of six 3.5-hour live interactive sessions on Zoom, plus five self-study modules, for a total of approximately 26–30 hours.
4. Apprenticeship: Complete an 8-week apprenticeship with our Center Director and/or seasoned teachers. (Appropriate next steps following the apprenticeship will be determined by the center director.)

Teachers' pay is TBD based on experience, skills, and class size.
